This is my submission for the Art Institute Apple Powerbook contest. What do you think? please give me detailed critique on this one, its really important. We were supposed to create a poster or cd cover or graphic. I chose to do a poster for a fake gig for Sara. She came up with the name "Rebirth", and I really like it. Any suggestions? Comments? things you don't like? TELL MOI!
Not bad, a few things to work on. You need to create a stronger focal point to get your message across. To do so follow the "CRAP-t" principles of design. C- Contrast - you have contrasted colour and in size, but try contrasting type too. see typography R- Repetition - you have used repetition, but have you used too much? A- Alignment - here is where you need to strengthen you design. You need to align elements to one another to create better eye flow movement. P- Proximity - The concept of proximity says that related items should be grouped together. You have done this but minimally. Likewise, items that are not related should not be close to each other. The process of grouping related information creates visual cues. T- Typography - Typography is a field so huge to talk about. In short you should never use two decorative fonts like you have done here or for that fact 2 serif fonts or 2 san serif fonts. Although it looks cool, it is a design faux pas. Try contrasting a decorative with a sans serif or serif. Some areas of your type is a little hard to read, especially where it overlaps on other elements.
By using all of the above try to establish some negative space (white space). Negative space is your friend, it allows your viewer time to visually pause and take in everything that is going on and creates stronger focal points, balance and flow.
Additionally, if I were designing something for someone, such as this I would try to incorporate something about them into the design. For this piece I would have incorporated the Apple logo instead of the circles. You could also use your wonderful arrow as a visual aid to direct your view to what you want them to look at, this will help eye flow tremendously. Or you could use those fabulous green circles as a visual aid to lead your viewer. You may also want rationalize how the theme "Rebirth" can be associated with Apple Powerbook and then visually communicate this idea. I hope I wasn't to harsh and that you find this helpful. If you have more questions feel free to ask. Good luck.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
